On March 12th and 13th, the New England Garrison was invited to PAX East by game company Bioware, to help promote their upcoming game, The Old Republic, a Massive multiplayer online roleplaying game. In its second year running, PAX is an independent, highly popular exposition show & convention for video game and gaming fans.
On Saturday March 12th the first troops landed on the expo floor for 8 hours of picture taking, crowd interaction and special events. Lord Vader & General Kenobi led a mixed group of Troopers and Jedi into the throng surrounding the Bioware booth toward the main stage. There, game trailers were in constant play on the large screen. The big draw however was the 45-minute playable demo of the game itself running on a multi terminal network, which had fans waiting for hours to get to play. Later that night a few select troops were asked to attend a meet & greet party in the adjacent hotel.
On Sunday, the NEG hit the ground again, with give-a-ways, interactive talks with the production crew of the game and more game footage continued to draw large crowds. In the end the people at Bioware were the best of hosts and very happy with our participation in this great event.
