On Saturday, June 25th members of the 501st New England Garrison and Rebel Legion’s Alderaan Base attended the American Cancer Society ‘Relay for Life’ event in Salem, NH. Troopers walked around the track during the “Halloween Lap” with other attendees wearing costumes. We also posed for pictures with the teams that were there to participate in the walk event. The NEG was also there to represent our own “Team Panda Bear”, which was created in honor of Jennifer Weiland-Sedor (ID/TI-9394) who lost her battle with breast cancer in April 2011. On Sunday, June 19th, members of the New England Garrison headed up to Shelburne, Vermont, for a Star Wars Day, celebrating the release of an upcoming book with the Flying Pig Bookstore. Marked with a prominent STAR WARS EVENT sign, troopers arrived at the event space and suited up, while a crowd gathered in the town gym to wait. On May 7th, 2011, members of the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion and Alderaan Base of the Rebel Legion were invited to participate in the kickoff of DK Publishing’s “Star Wars: Attack of the Authors Tour” in two locations in Southern New England. The first event at Buttonwood Books in Cohasset, MA saw a plethora of children attend author Ryder Windham’s book signing event. Many of the children participated in Star Wars costumes and t-shirts, and took photos with the attending 501st and Rebel Legion members. On Saturday, April 30th and Sunday, May 1st, members of the 501st’s New England Garrison and Rebel Legion’s Alderaan Base banded together at once again at the 2011 Boston ComiCon at the Hynes Convention Center. Their booth display included handouts for convention-goers, a photo-frame of the Garrison’s past events, a shelf-display of many of the Garrison’s personal props and a specially constructed Nerf Blaster Range where attendees could make a donation to the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” for an opportunity to shoot a trooper. On 4/21 members of the 501st NEG joined 7L & Esoteric on stage at the Sounds for Hounds benefit show in Cambridge, MA. Sounds for Hounds was a show put on by collection of local performers to support MSPCA-Angell, raising around $2500 for animals in need!
