On Saturday, October 31st, members of the 501st New England Garrison and Alderaan Base participated in the Rutland Halloween Parade. “The Rutland Halloween Parade is an annual event held on (or around) Halloween in the city of Rutland, Vermont, since 1960. The parade has a strong superhero theme and has been the setting for a number of comic book adventures. Local officials maintain that it is one of the largest and longest running Halloween parade in the United States.”

On July 28th, the New England Garrison was invited to the help celebrate all things Star Wars at the Burlington Public Library, in Burlington, MA. The event was part of their summer reading program. The event kicked off at 6pm, the first time the library had held an evening event. Darth Vader, a biker scout, a jawa, Commander Cody and R2-D2 were on hand. The library had all kinds of Star Wars crafts available for the kids; ake your own lightsaber, Leia buns, Yoda Ears, coloring pages and bookmarks. For snacks they had stormtrooper cupcakes and blue milk for everyone….

On Saturday, July 25th, the New England Garrison attented Star Wars Night with the Vermont Lake Monsters (the Single A Affiliate of the Oakland Athletics). The game, with fireworks after, was played at historic Centennial Field, on the campus of University of Vermont. This was a big night for the Lake Monsters. Much was made of our participation. The game was even advirtised in the local movie theaters, with the N.E.G. being center stage in the advirt. We were the talk of the town even before the first pitch was thrown! It wouldn’t be a Weird Al concert without the 501st Legion on stage! On Sunday, July 12th, the New England Garrison attended the Weird Al show at the Flynn Center in Burlington, Vermont. As with other stops along the Mandatory Fun tour, our troopers took to the stage for the encore, as Al and the band played “Cell Phones”, and then the classic hit “The Saga Begins” Our troopers who attended said it was a good time for all. To celebrate May the 4th, the international day of all things Star Wars, The Burlington Town Center Mall in Burlington Vermont invited The New England Garrison to join their Star Wars themed festivities. Besides meeting troopers from the 501st Legion, visitors to the mall could also play Star Wars video games, learn Jedi Mind Tricks, play Star Wars card games, and sample Star Wars cookies and pancakes!
