On May 7th, 2011, members of the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion and Alderaan Base of the Rebel Legion were invited to participate in the kickoff of DK Publishing’s “Star Wars: Attack of the Authors Tour” in two locations in Southern New England. The first event at Buttonwood Books in Cohasset, MA saw a plethora of children attend author Ryder Windham’s book signing event. Many of the children participated in Star Wars costumes and t-shirts, and took photos with the attending 501st and Rebel Legion members.

On November 6th, five troopers from the New England Garrison ventured down to the BJ’s Wholesale Club in Franklin, MA to help promote reading, a few different Star Wars books, and the unofficial beginning to the holiday shopping season. DK books, in conjunction with BJ’s Wholesale Club, set up a table near the entrance of the store to showcase some of their Star Wars books and toys for sale in the club. DK Books announced yesterday that the company would be donating $50,000 in childrens books to The Today Show Charitable Foundation, Inc, in the name of the 501st Legion. 7,000 full color reference books will be sent to Boys and Girls Clubs of America around the country. In 2009, the 501st Legion trooped hundreds events across the country, and it was the major efforts of members that prompted this donation.
