September 3rd was FORCE FRIDAY, the day that all the new Star Wars merchandise for The Force Awakens hit store shelves. The New England Garrison was invited to the end of the summer event at the Swansea Library, in Swansea, MA, on August 29th. It was their own mini-ComicCon!   The library had tried for 3 years for us to come to the event and was over the moon when we were able to make it! We had 3 Jawas and 2 Stormtroopers. We kinda became the Pied Pipers for the event. We took post outside to welcome people to the con and ended up getting more people to come to the event when they saw us. They had vendors, artists, activities…

On August 15th, the New England Garrison was asked to provide an honor guard at the memorial service of Thor, a Star Wars fan. The service was help in Plymouth, MA. The thank you letter we received from Thor’s partner Katie sums up the event perfectly… Dear Bob and the entire New England Garrison of the 501st: It has taken me awhile to sit down and write this thank you note as it was such as difficult and special day for us. I would like to thank you and the two members for attending Thor’s memorial service in Plymouth, Mass….

On July 28th, the New England Garrison was invited to the help celebrate all things Star Wars at the Burlington Public Library, in Burlington, MA. The event was part of their summer reading program. The event kicked off at 6pm, the first time the library had held an evening event. Darth Vader, a biker scout, a jawa, Commander Cody and R2-D2 were on hand. The library had all kinds of Star Wars crafts available for the kids; ake your own lightsaber, Leia buns, Yoda Ears, coloring pages and bookmarks. For snacks they had stormtrooper cupcakes and blue milk for everyone….

Another week, another Weird Al show for the New England Garrison! On August 4th, we performed on stage at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in New Bedford, MA with Weird Al on his Mandatory Fun Tour.  Sadly, this looks like the last New England appearance for Mr. Yankovic in the tour.  We did 6 out of 7 shows with Weird Al and his band as they swung through New England, and every experience was great! In fact, several of Al’s people noted throughout the night that we (meaning the NEG crews) were their favorite 501st groups of all the ones…
