On Thursday, November 2oth, members of the 501st Legion – New England Garrison and Rhode Island Pirate Players participated in a fundraiser at Ma Raffa’s restaurant in Bedford, MA, to raise awareness and funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children. It was a fun and quiet little troop. Not much more room except for the 4 troopers that were there. That night, with mention of the fundraiser to the hostess, 20% of bill would be donated to the Shriners’. The troop lasted an hour and a half, and everyone was very welcoming. On Saturday, November 29th, Darth Vader, Plo Koon, and an Endor Commando marched in the City of Lights parade in Lowell, MA. This parade is the grand finale to a day of festivities that ends with the ceremonial lighting of the downtown area, officially kicking off the holiday season. The trio were also joined by Captain America and Black Widow of the Avengers as they walked the parade route. Their mission was to help support a local non-profit group called STEP, short for Special Teams for Exceptional People. On Sunday, October 26th, members of the New England Garrison, Alderaan Base and the Mando Mercs marched in the 60th annual Woburn Lions Club Halloween Parade in Woburn, MA.   We had 41 troopers (plus 3 younglings) marching along Main Street. There was a solid grouping of OT characters for the Empire and a great looking crew of Jedi up front. And Firaxan Clan got into the mix by pulling together a 4-man line of their own to join us. On Saturday, October 25th, members of the 501st Legion – New England Garrison were invited to The Comic Shop in Watertown, MA. Like Free Comic Book Day in May, Halloween Comicfest has become a popular event in the Watertown community. Members of the 501st were invited to appear. On Saturday, September 20th members of the Rebel Legion – Alderaan Base and the 501st Legion – New England Garrison participated in the 4th annual Skating For Hope event. This is a 24-hour fundraiser that helps to fund the Hope Lodge, which provides temporary housing for out-of-state families coming to area hospitals getting treated for cancer.
