The New England Garrison received a request to visit the Worcester Art Museum on May 17th.   This is a “carry over” event from our many years at the Higgins Armory.  The idea is to continue the Higgins Armory Museum tradition of an annual Star Wars Day. Captain Rex, Commander Fil and a Stormtrooper were on guard duty in front of the main entrance to the armory wing. The Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, Vermont, invited troopers from the 501st Legion’s New England Garrison to attend their Commencement Ceremony this year.   The Center for Cartoon Studies is an MFA college dedicated to cartoonists and comic book artists, and their commencement speaker this year was Jeffrey Brown.  Mr. Brown is best known for his works Darth Vader and Son, and its sequels Vader’s Little Princess, Goodnight Darth Vader, and the Jedi Academy series. The 501st Legions’s New England Garrison was invited to attend very special birthday party for a 13 year old boy with Autism. The event was in Seekonk, MA. We had troopers who were happy to attend, for in their words, “The little fans are the best”! In attendance, there were 4 children with autism / neurological disorders, 4 or 5 other kids, and respective big kids (adults), bringing the crowd to about 20-25 people. One of our troopers in attendance reported… “Well it started like normal! Amazed child runs in opposite direction then has to be convinced we’re real! Haha…

The good folks at the Franklin Park Zoo invited the 501st’s New England Garrison, along with the Rebel Legion’s Alderaan Base back for another Star Wars Day. Our troopers descended upon the base on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10th. The zoo was very pleased with all our troopers and wranglers, they had a great turnout. As did we! It was really nice to see a big number of troopers again this year. This event is turning into a garrison favorite! On Star Wars Day, May the 4th, the 501st’s New England Garrison, along with the Rebel Legion’s Alderaan Base, was invited to Star Wars Night at Fenway Park. – This was a troop that is one for the history books! The adjective “EPIC!” is not a strong enough word to describe how great this night was! We arrived a few hours before the Red Sox game that night, so that we were able to suit up and walk onto the field.
