Another week, another Weird Al show for the New England Garrison! On August 4th, we performed on stage at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in New Bedford, MA with Weird Al on his Mandatory Fun Tour.  Sadly, this looks like the last New England appearance for Mr. Yankovic in the tour.  We did 6 out of 7 shows with Weird Al and his band as they swung through New England, and every experience was great! On May 31st, member of the 501st Legion’s New England Garrison, along with members of The Rebel Legion’s Alderaan Base, were invited to the “Be a Rebel, Read a Book!” event held at Water Street Books, in Exeter, NH. Book publisher Dorling Kindersley (DK) launched the nationwide “Star Wars: Read a Book, Be a Rebel” initiative. Water Street Bookstore was selected as an official event site. On Saturday, November 29th, Darth Vader, Plo Koon, and an Endor Commando marched in the City of Lights parade in Lowell, MA. This parade is the grand finale to a day of festivities that ends with the ceremonial lighting of the downtown area, officially kicking off the holiday season. The trio were also joined by Captain America and Black Widow of the Avengers as they walked the parade route. Their mission was to help support a local non-profit group called STEP, short for Special Teams for Exceptional People. On Sunday, September 21st members of the 501st New England Garrison paid a special visit to a very special person. Peter Allen dreamed of joining the 501st but unfortunately was diagnosed with ALS before he could finish his TIE Pilot costume. So members of the garrison took it upon themselves to finish the costume for Peter and make sure that his dream came true. Welcome to the 501st Legion pilot!!!

On Saturday, September 20th members of the Rebel Legion – Alderaan Base and the 501st Legion – New England Garrison participated in the 4th annual Skating For Hope event. This is a 24-hour fundraiser that helps to fund the Hope Lodge, which provides temporary housing for out-of-state families coming to area hospitals getting treated for cancer.
