A Basic Guide to Trooping

Welcome Trooper!

Perhaps you are new to the NEG. Maybe you've been around for a while but haven't been active. You might even be a seasoned veteran who is just looking for a good tip.

It doesn't matter why you are here, it just matters that you are!

This list is only as good as the people that maintain it. If you have something, it is your responsibility to list it here. If you take something, you take on that responsibility. If there is something that is frequently used by the group but is your personal property, it's a good idea to list it here too, so that there is no question about who owns what.

The Troop Tracker

The Troop Tracker is a custom tool to track activity in the garrison. After an event has passed, click the Troop Tracker link in the left hand navigation of the forum. You can then mark off your attendance at the event.

This will show up in a bunch of places, so it is important that you do it!

Contacting and Paying the Charity

If the garrison raised money for a charity, we need to get it to them in a timely manner. The event planner is typically responsible for this. Do not send charity funds to the NEG paypal account - it will result in excess fees taken and a longer time for the payment to be made to the charity.

Food and drink

It's a good idea to arrange for some beverages and snacks. If it's an early morning event, or one on a cold day, coffee is always appreciated.

A few cases of bottled water is a must, and it's a great idea to have some cookies / granola bars / etc... at the end. After hours marching in armor, you get REALLY hungry (and some of our members may suffer from diabetes or blood sugar issues that could get dangerous after a long walk)!!

Transportation

Not all parades are have convenient parking or follow circular routes. If you're setting up a parade, find out where the parking is in relation to the rest of the walk.

In some cases, the parades will follow a straight route and end potentially miles from where the march began. This is a BIG problem if you've got 50 tired troopers asking you how they are getting back to their cars!
